Things like my phone now being at least semi-fucked. It seems the fast-port is no good for USB any more, which is a shame because there are all sorts of things I wanted to try with the newly discovered FAR manager plug-ins. That’ll teach me to try and charge it from an external USB hub run off an adjustable power supply that I’d not set correctly.

Morange in action (you don’t want to know what the other email said)
On a similarly phone-y vein, I also discovered a nice service called Morange communicator. It’s basically Opera mini for the rest of the net.
What?
Well, it’s a slick MDIP 2.0 app that connects to a server somewhere, through which data is transferred very efficiently (I imagine some compression is used? I have no idea). Instead of fetching and re-rendering web-pages for you the Morange server connects to your IM accounts, checks your mail and also your rss feeds. It does some frankly un-needed stuff too, like a calendar and todo list (which can sync via a desktop client with outlook, but nothing else – see why I’m not fussed?), and some odd features like webcam-checking, and file access to your desktop (again, via that windows client).
It’s upsetting in that the best mobile IM solution I’ve yet found is another dreaded web 2.0 server-server-client setup. Whatever happened to an app that connected straight to a service? Of course, it is very good, so I’m going to let that slide for now.
I’ve also learned that my lax html is weak-fu and should be replaced with strict xhtml 1.0 as soon as possible. Go go w3schools!
The final lesson? You can never have enough storage space. Three people are living in this house now, which is cool, but that three people’s stuff also resides here is painfully apparent. I’m so very not getting another lodger when Leanne moves out.
