the fruits of my labours

Ok, so I really, really shouldn’t have done that; it took far too long and got me far too cranky.

It looks pretty now though, right? Re-load the page and check out the banner there. It’s cool, I’ll wait.

“But where did the sidebar go, Bob?” I hear you cry!

In answer to you plaintive pleas I suggest you click the links to the left under the banner. Yes? I think it’s neater that way, nice and simple. I plan to have them only show up if you’re actually in the blog, eventually, but right now I’m hungry and my head hurts.

The chess pages might not quite fit any more, and your mileage may vary with Internet Explorer. I have at least got a script sucking the transparent .png off the banner and straightening out the navigation links for you kindly, backwards folk, so don’t say I never do anything for you.

such great heights~

I’ve got a cupboard with cans of food.
Filtered water, and pictures of you.
And I’m not coming out ’till I’m too sore to jerk it any more.

little blind rats

Worst. Mother. Ever.

I’m in Belper, babysitting puppies (puppysitting?). My mother’s dog gave birth to a litter of thirteen (her third, and possibly final) in the wee hours of this morning, so it’s once again time for a round-the-clock vigil in case the dozy bitch sits on one of them (seriously, she does it worryingly often).

Right now they’re little blind rats that seek only to suckle at a teat full of delicious dog-milk (full of goodness, vitamins and marrow-bone jelly). However, thirteen puppies minus eight dog-nipples (ten including my own) leaves some leftovers, so it is also my duty to rotate the little buggers.

On the plus side, there is WiFi in the house, and chocolate, so I’m not really missing out on much.

In other news: Jack bought himself a domain! manwhat.com is live right now, and I think it’s a pretty cool domain. Now if only he’d put something cool there I could sleep easily.

There was something else… I know there was. Oh well.

he said it

I saw X-men three yesterday. It was good. He said it. I laughed my ass right off my seat.

Actually, I’ve been a total consumer whore lately, I spent around 6 hours in the cinema yesterday, watching not only X3, but also the Da Vinci Code. The latter is best summed up as Amelié, aided by the crazy airport-dwelling guy, evades capture by an evil albino tennis player, Magneto, Doctor Octopus and Leon The Professional. And then it turns out she’s actually that retarded kid from Book 2 (or was it 3?) of Preacher.

That said, it was actually pretty fun to watch. I enjoyed myself. Also: I saw both Superman trailers on the big screen, and all my dicks are cumming at once. I want to see this film so hard, just for Kevin Spacey playing Lex Luthor <3

I bought Scott Pilgrim vol. 1 as well, so Ani can stop bugging me about it. It’s pretty good too, I shall have to check out two and three at the next possible convenience.

Oh, and I totally got that mail thing I talked about on Wednesday working. I even have a SMTP server set up, though I’ve got it using gmail as a smart host right now (dreamhost’s server doesn’t like being used in this way) so that servers don’t confuse my mail for that of a filthy spammer.

It doesn’t seem to work so well from my phone though. Actually, it’s pretty odd. It worked fine at first, but then yesterday it would log on, gets headers, then start downloading a message, but then mess up and claim it cannot reach any mail. Very odd behaviour!

electronic mail

Man, I’ve really been craving
pop-tarts lately. Just sayin’

How many email accounts do you have? I have four, at last count.

How many devices do you have that you’d want to check your email from? I have three, four if you include webmail.

Anyway, it’s been bugging me lately that my POP accounts don’t sync across all my machines like my IMAP ones do. It’s a real pain when I’m looking for a billing confirmation or someshit only to find it got downloaded by a machine other than the one I’m working on. Does that bug you too?

So, I was thinking. I’ve got Edward sat there doing not very much of anything all day (unless you count saturating my upstream with dutiful torrent-seeding), maybe I could have Edward aggregate all my email, then re-publish it as a single IMAP account that I could check from all my machines. Hell, there’s probably a webmail interface I could slap on it too.

I dunno, is that feasible? I know I could just as happily have my dreamhost mail grab all the others for me and then just check that one, but I’m pretty uncomfortable with my mail being stored on other people’s servers as it is. I only really play along for the convenience factor, you know? Also: this way my mail is persistent: no matter which accounts I remove or add the super-account would stay constant.

Something to look at… after I finish my exams.

zomg teh lame!

Today I have the lamest exam ever. Organisational Behaviour. I also have no idea how long it is. Fuck. Argh. etc….

And why have none of my modules, indeed, no worthwhile modules at all, been cancelled? I mean fuck, it turns out my maths lecturer isn’t even a member of the goddamn union. Not only is he terminally boring and mostly unintelligible, but he’s also a scab! I have killed for less.

Also: I have some food in front of me labelled “new improved”. What I want to know is what they improved! Is it a better colour, or tastier, or lower-fat? Why is there no version history available?
