groovy music

Today’s message is a simple one.

THE KAISER CHIEFS ARE GOD.

The last albums I heard that were this good all the way through are Razorlights’ “Up All Night” and “Mescalero” by ZZ Top. No filler is present whatsoever, not an ounce. Don’t rip this CD then put the songs you like in playlists, you will like them all. Listen to the album as a single entity, it deserves it.

That said, some animals are more equal than others, and the opener is a real attention-grabber. The lyrics sound like something the Barenaked Ladies might write while feeling melancholy, and the vocal style is 100% pure XTC, only in a good way (what, you haven’t heard of XTC? Damn kids these days). Clearly, however, the star of the show is track six, “Oh My God”, which tells anyone who’ll listen that yes, Franz Ferdinand were no fluke: indie rock can have awesome choruses.

we’re all human afterall

It is done. Just about.

When?
Saturday, April the 9th, some time before midday.

Where?
London, the Apple store. (I didn’t hear any other suggestions :P )

Who?
Myself, Isis, Beneath, Shish, Malagate, Irimi Nage, Jargon, Dr Fugitive, Bantam, Loismustdie, Edz, Keg and maybe Milliways (and her bloke).
What’ll we do when we get there?
(window) shopping, eating, drinking, flirting with Isis (form an orderly queue guys), insulting the Moomin bag, and maybe a film or two.

And now, some advice. Meeting a bunch of people you don’t really know or trust, in a big scary city full of crime is risky enough for you, never mind your Powerbook. Leave your laptop at home, people. Normally I take mine so as to watch a film on the train, but we’re going to be out and about all day, with nowhere safe to dump the thing. I think I’ll get a magazine to read, or I could actually talk to someone on the train….

While you’re here, I may as well say that the new Daft Punk album is a real mixed bag, and not really in the good liquorice allsorts way. Ho hum. I still have high (though doubtless misplaced) hopes for the new Gorillaz album.

the meat-up

Come together, right now, over me!

…or something.

OK, so Isis and I (actually, Isis hasn’t done all that much thus far, lazy bum) are organising a meet-up, henceforth to be known as “the meat-up”, for MT forum and forum-m dwellers alike. There’s a thread on it over here which is the best way to add your input, really.

So far we have ascertained roughly where various people live, and held a shoddy vote as to the location, in which the fair city of London emerged victorious (bah). We still need to decide two key things though:
1) the date
2) what we’ll actually do there

First, the date. The easter holidays for schools (hello kiddies!) are the 24th of March to the 11th of April, and uni holidays will doubtless overlap there as well, so I’m thinking then. It also really needs to be a weekend, simply because we’re not all schoolkids, and at least half of us have jobs. We’ve got three possible weekends in the school holidays: the 26th/27th of March, the 2nd/3rd of April and the 9th/10th of April. The first one is too soon to be getting cheap train tickets for (not to mention being the Easter weekend, which you should spend with your families!), so that’s out, so we’re left with the 1st two weekends in April, basically. I’d rather do it Saturday too, since trains are more regular then, but that’s open to debate too. Now, let’s vote, fuckers!

Now, what we’ll do when we get there. Well, London has good shopping, and I for one intend to spend at least a little while drooling over stuff in the Apple store (especially if Tiger’s out by then, mmmmmmm), although I feel the plan should eventually involve finding a pub and drinking some stout. Hmmmm, any good films going to be out in April? Any good bands playing in London? I’m open to suggestions, people!

So yeah, get in the thread, or on IRC or MSN and lemme know what dates you can make and what you want to do!

PS: I made the nav bar into an iframe, is it not now even sexier?

nine inch nails ahoy!

Time for a half happy, half angry rant~ ^_^

Firstly I’ve got tickets to see Nine Inch Nails in July, in Birmingham, which is great. (I’m also hoping to meet Trebius from the MT forums when I go up there) I asked my friends to get me some extra tickets, just to make sure that I could definately go (due to bad experiences with ticket-getting in the past -_-) and was planning to sell the extras on ebay. Now the guy that ended up getting the tickets bought 2 extra, one of which would be mine to sell. Only it turns out that not only has he put them on ebay ALREADY (which is pretty dumb, they’d go for much more if he waited) but he’s decided that both are his, and he’s not going to cut me in, despite the fact that it was my idea. SO not impressed~ I’ll kick him once I get my ticket, but best to stay on the right side of him ’till I do XD

My plan for the gig is to seduce Trent Reznor. I realise that this is very unlikely, as not only would I be unlikely to get that close to him, but he probably wouldn’t want to sleep with me anyway. However, I figure that whatever the odds, I have more chance of succeeding if I try than if I don’t. XD

Teh Appeal~~

It’s recently been arranged that European MT members are going to meet up in France. This is a pretty good idea, but I may not be able to get the time off work, and Bob can’t make it to France~

After much debating, Bob and I decided that it would be cool to have a meeting in England, of all the English Forumites. However, because Bob is an argumentative little sod, we can’t agree on an appropreate place to hold the meeting. I propose that anyone in England who is interested in this gets in touch with us, and tells us where abouts in the UK they are. This way, we can work out a centrepoint that is as close as possible to everyone.

When we have gathered together a fair number of locations, Bob will make a map. He says he won’t, but I shall beat him into submission. ^_^
